Cannabis, to smoke it or to eat it?

There are many factors to consider when you are consuming cannabis. Strain, concentration

and of course, consumption type. Do you like to smoke your cannabis or eat it? Both have their own effect on the consumer. Many people describe the effects of smoking cannabis to be very different then eating it. This difference can only be credited to the different way we absorb THC by smoking verses eating cannabis.

What happens when we smoke cannabis?

When we smoke cannabis THC travels to our lungs, goes into our bloodstream and then to our brain binding to receptors in the endocannabinoid system, which produces the euphoria typically associated with getting high. Because the time from inhalation to absorption is so short, most of us feel this "high" effect very quickly but it usually only lasts about an hour.

What happens when we eat cannabis infused products?

When you eat a cannabis infused product or edible, it passes through the digestive tract where it's then absorbed by the stomach and then the liver. When cannabis' active compounds are metabolized in the liver, THC is converted into 11-hydroxy-THC, a compound that is both more potent and longer-lasting than delta-9 THC. Because the cannabinoids in edibles are processed through our digestive tract it could take as long as 2 to 3 hours to feel the effects of an edible but it will be stronger and the effects will last much longer then smoking the same percentage of THC. This is why some people who love to smoke cannabis just cant handle edibles.

While choosing your consumption method you have a couple things to keep in mind. When you are smoking a joint or doing a dab, the high is felt almost immediately, allowing you to gauge how high you are and when you should quit in real time. When eating edibles they can sneak up on you because they take so long to feel the effects. So start slow with edibles, you can always add more but you cannot take anything away, you just have to hold on for the ride.
